Welcome to the first edition of the Teamsters Local 926 newsletter made available to you with the generous assistance of the law firm Yablonski, Costello & Leckie, P.C.
It is with great pride and excitement that we bring this newsletter to you. For this first edition, I would like to briefly touch on a question often asked of myself and my fellow business representatives.
Why belong to a union?
Belonging to a union provides the ability to come together for a voice on the job, and gives working people the power to solve workplace problems, to innovate on the job, and to improve working conditions.
Collective bargaining brings democracy inside the workplace door and fosters a fair, strong middle class economy. What you seldom or never hear from the biased media of today is the fact that the more union members there are in this country, the better off everyone is.
Throughout our history when unions are strong, wages go up, healthcare coverage improves, and pensions are strengthened. When unions are under attack, as they are today, we are all in danger—our jobs, our communities and our families.
Unions have faced intense scrutiny by law enforcement and government regulations intent on weakening them and there is a very strong anti-union sentiment that currently exists in this country that will only go away when millions more American workers join unions, to promote a pro-worker political consensus to emerge that firmly supports our goals of providing members the means to achieve their own slice of the American dream.
